How to update the GCHawk Firmware

How to update the GCHawk Firmware

Use the Windows updater to install the latest GCHawk firmware; keep the unit on AC power and don’t disconnect during the process.

Before you begin

  • Windows 10/11 64-bit PC required (macOS not supported).
  • GCHawk must be on its AC power adapter the whole time (USB-C/Ethernet are for data only).
  • Close all FSX apps. Keep the PC awake (no sleep).
  • Get the updater from the GCH support page.
  • Connect to the PC via USB-C (direct to a PC port, avoid hubs) or to the same network via Ethernet (temporarily disable VPN for Ethernet).

Step 1: Download the updater

  • Open the GCH support page above.
  • Download the latest GCHawk firmware updater/installer and save it to your desktop.

Step 2: Connect the GCHawk

  • Power on the GCHawk using its AC power adapter.
  • Connect USB-C directly to the PC (recommended), or connect Ethernet to the same router/switch as the PC.

Step 3: Run the update

  • Right-click the installer → Run as administrator and follow the prompts.
  • If Windows SmartScreen appears, choose More info → Run anyway (corporate PCs may require IT approval).
  • Do not unplug power or cables during the update. The unit may restart—wait for the Close prompt before disconnecting.

Notes

  • After the updater finishes, power-cycle the GCHawk once.
  • If you used Ethernet, make sure the PC and GCHawk are on the same subnet; if discovery fails, switch to USB-C.

FAQs

The updater can’t find my GCHawk—what now?

Try USB-C direct (avoid USB hubs).

If using Ethernet, ensure the PC and GCHawk are on the same subnet and temporarily disable VPN.

Reboot both the GCHawk and the PC, then rerun the installer as Administrator.

Can I update from a Mac or a VM (Parallels/Boot Camp)?

No. The updater is Windows-only. Use a native Windows 10/11 PC.

How long does it take?

Usually a few minutes. If it exceeds 10–15 minutes with no progress, cancel, power-cycle the unit, and rerun the updater.

Do I need to recalibrate after a firmware update?

No user calibration is required for firmware updates. If numbers look off after standardizing setup, contact Support.

The update finished but behavior seems odd.

Fully power-cycle the GCHawk. If issues persist, note your connection type (USB-C/Ethernet), Windows version, and any error messages, then contact Support.
